This will become as it was when communism fell, hardliners will crack down on it. There will be an internal struggle at the highest levels. They are only one step away from the Trinity now! mwah ah ah!

Seriously considering stepping down as Elder
by fader77 ini have been an elder for 6 years.
it's been the last 2 years or so that i've really seen the hypocrisy, but the ability to know the shenanigans of the society through the body of elders letters has kind of kept me in there.
i'm to the point now that i can't stand the hatred and bitterness that the body of elders has towards myself and my whole family.

The odd thing is your family are programmed to follow your lead. Now of course this is the wrong direction in their eyes but "old habits" you know? So if you do it slowly, carefully and not confrontationally you may have sucess. Don't use the words "step down" they hate that. Just say you are no longer able to serve as an elder as you are not in a position to: whatever the reason ... Nerves, Financial reasons, Health. I would make clear it is not because of any wrongdoing on your part or lack of faith in the organization. Have to kiss the butt on that one for the sake of the fam. But make up your mind what your tactic is. Is it health or depression? I would slack off on service and public talks for awhile so they think they are clever and "saw it coming". They won't say anything to help you but they will congratulate each other on being able to predict it. Jerks. All the best. Go easy on the fam, let it be organic.

Why do so many refer to Elders as "window washers"?
by adjusted knowledge ini know the society is against higher education and the pursuit of careers but in my experience the elders in the various congregations i attended had good careers.
in fact most had their own businesses.
thinking back of the boe when i was a teenager this is what they had as a career: two were respected carpenters who owned a construction business, one a high school teacher(he was the po), one sold insurance and was a lawyer, one owned a landscaping business and also hired sisters to clean office buildings and other accounts he had, one was retired, and the last was a janitor for the school board.

In my old congregation?
PO; Janitor,
Secretary; Bank Manager,
Service Overseer; parts counter person.
Other elders? Truck driver, retired, retired, former motel owner, laborer.
No higher education for any of them.
Most pioneers were welfare mothers.

What to say to the Sheparding Call
by Jon Preston inok i need some quick advice.
the elders have contacted my wife about a sheparding call, not me (is that weird?).
anyways she directed them to text or call me.

Jon, dont even play the game. Tell them you are not up to a shepherding call right now, thanks. I'll let you know when I am. .... that's it. Done. You are not obligated nor can you be disfellowshipped or reproved for not accepting one. If they call back, simply repeat the same answer. If they ask why just say this is a bad time to talk and thanks for calling, HANG UP.

I'm confused! Just what is the "new" donation arrangement and how is it like "tithing"?
by booker-t ini've been out so long but many of my ex-jws friends have been telling me of a "new" donation/tithing arrangement the wts is using today.
when i was a jws we had "contribution" boxes at the back of the kh and the elders would give talks about contributing to the kingdom interest.
we were not forced to give but gave as we pleased.

I was confused on this too. It turns out that they want a regular donation amount from the congregation. If the congregation has a current loan payment they are encouraged to at least match that amount. They "forgave" all loans but expect them to donate this amount without a payoff in sight. Perhaps this leads to the tithe thinking; congregations without a current loan are encouraged to take a confidential survey of how much a publisher can donate each month. Then when they total these pledges they are to make a motion for the congregation to donate that much each month. I suppose that is what some are viewing as "Tithing". I think its just plain extortion. Not all congregations are doing the survey thing. So they dont know about it. Only those without an outstanding loan are to do that. Same result different scam. Read ALL of the text in the letters, it clarified things for me.

Most absurd thing I heard at the convention yesterday!
by Batman89 inbrother lett was giving the last talk of the day about what they supposedly accomplished in 100 years.
i was just waking up so im paraphrasing alittle(i was dosing off all day) anyways in his introduction he said.
"there is more evidence to prove gods kingdom on the earth is a reality than wind, electricity and gravity is a reality on the earth".

WOW....LOOK at THESE J W 's in FULL SHUNNING MODE!
by clarity inhave a look at the blank faces as this man asks a .
simple question.
this video is proof ...jw's will.

This video is incomplete. We are left to assume that only a man with a microphone and a camera person were present asking this question. I agree with one comment that asked for more info. Was there a table manned by supporters of this guy with attacking slogans on signs? If so then the JW's would never speak to him. It may not have been just a simple question. Maybe they will enlighten us with that info. The JW's certainly fall in line.

Inactive relative defends new donation setup based on word of active relative. Doubts veracity of letters!
by Wasanelder Once inmy sister came to the society's defense on the issue of "pledged amounts" not being accurate because a realative stated that it didn't happen in her congregation.
so i said they were mistaken, and that i had access to the letters proving it.
she doubted that they were authentic.

My sister came to the society's defense on the issue of "pledged amounts" not being accurate because a realative stated that it didn't happen in her congregation. So I said they were mistaken, and that I had access to the letters proving it. She doubted that they were authentic. "It's from apostates!" So I found them and downloaded the PDF files and read them closely. Only in congregations without a previous loan or resolution are to take a confidential survey of individual publishers. It is great that its in the section that is NOT TO BE READ to the publishers!
Her daughter's congregation owes a loan and had a payment amount so no survey was necessary. That's why she didn't know. So I emailed the PDF's to the relative so they can read it for themselves Do you have inactive family that are loyal even though they dont give a crap about any of the requirements the society makes? Total worldly people except that kneejerk loyalty? Its so damn annoying. How do you deal with it?

Catching up after putting life on hold while a JW.....
by EndofMysteries init's only been a couple of years since i fully woke up to ttatt.
although it's....almost never too late to turn your life around, definitely the older you are, the harder it will be.
i had put marriage, school, traveling, and 'worldly goals' aside because the end was 'just around the corner' and those things shouldn't be pursued.

You have realized that catching up really means taking hold of a future of your own making. Not everyone will acheive all those things when they catch up, but once we take hold of our own future we will achieve similar goals. Some of us have already done things once unthinkable that our chained minds would not allow. Good for you. Everyone else? That's the challange isn't it? To take hold of your future and see what is possible for you? Good luck everyone. You can do whatever is within your grasp.
